Rolex introduced the sapphire crystal at this point, as well as upgrading the 1570 movement to the 3035 that had a higher beat to improve accuracy. The unusual “nipple dial” (so called because of the larger gold surrounds on the tritium markers) makes the watch desirable to collectors, but even without these elements, the vibrancy of the blue and gold colours makes for a stunning overall appearance.
